It’s within your power to change the future for mothers in Uganda.

$7 = Hope & Health

Your donation of $7 provides a mother in Uganda with food and prenatal vitamins for an entire week. Physical nourishment is a blessing for these mothers, and knowing someone cares for them is even more encouraging.

Help us empower the vulnerable.

Uganda is reeling from years of hardship. A brutal war and the AIDs epidemic left millions of orphans in an area the size of Kentucky and Tennessee. So there, it’s common for women who become pregnant to be treated poorly, beaten, and abused.

Ruth House was established for these mothers and mothers-to-be. Women fleeing abuse, rape, and abandonment — come seeking food, security, peace, and education.

Without Ruth House and their supporters, these young pregnant women are rejected, starve, and die alone. It’s wrong for these women to suffer when it takes so little for us to help.

For us in other parts of the world, Ruth House offers us a rare opportunity to reach across the globe and make a powerful, life-changing difference for women in desperate situations.

Mary ran away from a violent home.

She hid in an abandoned building until she learned of Ruth House. There, fear was replaced with relief. She delivered her baby safely and is now learning vocational skills to help her live independently.

Your $7 provides health and hope.

$7 equals a fancy coffee or a fast-food meal in many places. At Ruth House, $7 provides food and vitamins to a mother for an entire week.

But it’s more than food for health. It’s a signal of hope. Knowing that someone cares enough to give is an even better gift for these mothers and mothers-to-be who left everyone and everything behind.

About Ruth House

Established by New Beginnings in early 2020, Ruth House is a home for vulnerable women who are pregnant and threatened with starvation or violence in their homes of origin. Ruth House provides safety within a walled compound. Behind locked doors, residents have a bed, food, water, electric light, food preparation space, and a bathroom.

A fishery on the property is maintained by the residents. It provides healthy food at a lower cost than higher-priced local markets. The remaining fish surplus is sold to offset food and operational costs.

Residents learn fishery and other food production skills on the property. The land is also farmed for corn, beans, bananas, sweet potatoes, yams, and cassava.

In addition, residents receive education and vocational career training. The first training program is centered on tailoring. Ruth House is currently working to secure three sewing machines to get the Tailoring Program underway.

Residents receive a small stipend for personal expenses in return for their work, and money is saved for when they leave. When a mother is ready, she gets the saved money to help her with a new beginning.

FAQs

Abortions are illegal in Uganda but are done through a dangerous network of often untrained people. The leading cause of death for Ugandans ages 15-18 is pregnancy, and 20% of maternal deaths are caused by abortion-related complications.

Does Ruth House perform abortions?

No. Ruth House is passionate about healthcare that is pro-women and pro-baby. Ruth House has a resident midwife for labor delivery and transfers women to a local hospital for complicated deliveries.

How does Ruth House handle donations?

New Beginnings and Ruth House operate debt-free. Donations are used for operations first, then for special projects. For example, plans for a rural health care clinic and school to teach additional vocational skills are moving forward at the pace of available funds.

Does Ruth House accept larger donations?

Yes. New Beginnings and Ruth House are grateful for every gift received. Still, Ruth House has many ongoing needs and plans that require funding. Large gifts, donations, and recurring donations are accepted by the United for Life Foundation and wired to New Beginnings for Ruth House.

Why do donations go through the United for Life Foundation?

Sending and receiving funds online into Uganda is difficult. Much of the gift can be consumed by exchange and service fees. Donations are made in the U.S. to minimize this loss, then wired to New Beginnings for use at Ruth House.
